Making a Difference Katie Nugent Project
Identifying and meeting parents’ needs
The philosophy of care of the Haematology/Oncology team at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin (OLCHC) has always been family-centred. The hospital, in collaboration with Trinity College Dublin (TCD), has developed a shared vision to conduct a needs analysis to identify parents’ needs, and to inform the sensitive provision of emotional, social and practical support for them, in a way that will complement and enhance existing services.
The needs analysis is intended to be a collaborative effort bringing together different disciplinary lenses and parents’ views through questionnaires and interviews over a 12-month period. The information gained will provide a broad and detailed understanding of parents’ needs and the degree to which they are being met. This approach will enable the service to develop so that it can meet parents’ needs more effectively. A new service framework can then be developed, implemented and reviewed.
This project will form the first broad needs analysis of Haematology/Oncology Services in Ireland.
